Career Planning: Steps on the Road to Success

Here are some career advice questions we've put together at Blueberry HRM to guide your career planning... How should you choose your career?

"The only way to have a great job is to love what you do."

What should be the process of researching and determining which career path is the most suitable for us?
Of course, when answering this question, we should first decide on a job that we can be happy with and evaluate all career opportunities well.

Here are some career advice questions we have put together at Blueberry HRM to guide your career planning while looking for what is best for you.

1) Job or career?
One position can be just a job, another position can be a good career. It is our own mindsets that make the difference. For the former it is an employer paying a salary at the end of the month, for the latter it is the first rung on the ladder of professional development. If you need an income to support yourself and perhaps your family, a job will only help you achieve this goal. However, if you are building a career, you should pursue positions with the bigger picture in mind.

2) What are the characteristics that make a job 'happy' for me?
Some people want a high salary, title or prestige, while others are happier in a job that gives them the satisfaction of serving others. Job seekers are increasingly choosing careers where hard work is recognised and rewarded.

3) What are my passions?
Stop at this point and make a list of things you love to do. If you are a student, what you love to do will drive your studies. If you are currently working, you should ask yourself if you like what you are doing enough to love it in the future. If the answer is no, don't worry. It is better to have a job than to be unemployed. Some jobs help us better understand what we don't like and encourage us to pursue things we might be passionate about. Think of people who have graduated and started working in their field, only to leave it because of their interest in the creative arts.

4) How long will it take you to reach your chosen profession? Will there be opportunities for such a career in the future?

Think long-term here... In your personal life, are you thinking about owning a house, travelling or starting a family? Some of the jobs you are considering may not earn you enough money or may not fit the lifestyle you want. It is also important for you to visualise the future you want to create, to put effort and experience into your future.

Some of the above questions we have compiled for you will help you in your possible career choice. Come on, you are now closer to your career steps and it's time to start this journey...
